On Tuesday, the Vegas Golden Knights took down the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 to end their win streak. If the Oilers beat the Golden Knights they would have had a 17 game win streak which would have tied the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Golden Knights cut there streak off at only 16 games. At the beginning of the season the Oilers were Cup Champion favorites until they lost 10 games and were at the bottom of the league. The Oilers then fired their coach and hired Chris Knoblauch who changed the Oilers game style that made them a well oiled machine.
The Edmonton Oilers really struggled when it came to their defense which caused their two superstars to crumble under pressure. The losses just kept piling up and Connor McDavid was showing his emotions by getting rattled and taking many penalties. Leon Draisaitl is like McDavid’s puppy and if McDavid struggles to perform then Leon won’t be a point per game player like in the playoffs. Chris Knoblauch has done a really good job at utilizing his all-stars properly. The Oilers have let up less than two goals in their past 14 games before the Vegas match-up. When they play better defense than ever they have high hopes as they head into a game facing off against the defending Stanley Cup Champs.
The Oilers get off to a good start scoring the first goal of the game on a 2 on 0 with their two superstars McDavid and Draisaitl, little did they know that will be their only goal of the game as the Golden Knights pick up a loose rebound to tie it. No one scored in the second period. In the third period, the Golden Knights take advantage of a bad Oilers change and they take the lead 2-1. In the final seconds the Knights get an empty net goal and the Oilers win streak is over.
